Meta, Canonical & Noindex Checker

Why might a page not be indexed correctly? Check the title, meta description, meta robots, the X-Robots-Tag header, the canonical, conflicts between them, and whether the canonical URL loads.

We fetch the public page from our server and check it in your browser. The URL is not stored.

What it checks

  • HTTP status, redirects and HTTPS of the page itself.
  • Title and meta description: present, only one, reasonable length.
  • noindex / none in meta robots, meta googlebot and the X-Robots-Tag response header; contradictory index + noindex.
  • Canonical: present, only one, absolute, self-referencing or not, and the status of the canonical URL.

Example

The server sends X-Robots-Tag: noindex — invisible in the HTML. The check reads the response header and reports it, so a page that “looks fine” in the source is not silently marked as passed.

FAQ

Is a missing canonical an error?
Not necessarily. A self-referencing canonical is recommended, so a missing one is marked Review, with a tag you can copy.
Does it check robots.txt?
Not yet — it is shown as Not checked.
Why is a long title only a Review?
Search engines may shorten long titles, but that is a judgement call, not an error.
